Investigation on lst files: 05.pp

I am continuing my investigation into the lst files. There is one issue that is bothering me: why can't we replace saga with a girl character? So I am currently looking at the lst files in mo_00_00_05.pp for clues.

Standardized sharing format

Most of the xx files contain large amounts of images.
In fact, the reason why an xx file is huge is because of those images. Most of them are bmp's and tga's, and even a simple image could take up 1 MB.

So I have decided to release everything as unpacked, PP-ready folders. This means when you download my files, they will either be a wizard ready archive, or they will just be a PP ready archive. If it's wizard ready, just put it in the mods folders and apply. If it's PP-ready, extract the folder, then drop it over PPextractor to create the new PP, then put it in your data folders.

I have put up a new mo_00_00_00.pp in an unpacked format in the standalone client post. It is 40 MB in total (20% compression ratio!), making the stand-alone client a total of 70 MB to download.

MMD x Yuusha

Yesterday I was browsing MMD videos on nico nico douga and was fascinated by how many touhou characters there are. And sengoku basara. So I looked around for more information about the software and noted that a lot of the models and stages are stored in pmd files.

Stand-alone client

After compiling the PP reference, I was interested just how little space I could take up. I deleted a number of unneeded files like sounds and animations, but my data folder was still 2 GB from all of my additions (80+ maps, 200+ items, etc, which could be optimized really).

Summary of lst findings

So it appears that I'm nearing the end of my lst file modding journey. At least, until someone with more technical expertise figures out most of the roadblocks that are in the way (ie: plst files, kys files). Here is a summary of the things I've been able to do with lst files

Dissidia X Yuusha?

Came across an extraction tool written by someone that works in the game industry.
Various tools are available to extract GMO's from PSP image files. Using his extraction tool, we can then grab meshes and textures (amongst other stuff).

ANSI vs UTF-8

Just a minor thing I noticed: all lst files must be saved in ANSI. If you convert it to UTF-8 you will crash. I have not checked other encodings, but you should probably shouldn't touch the encoding.

Unessential files for digital yuusha

Personally, the main game is useless to me. I find much more entertainment in creating my own scenes with a limitless amount of customizations, and so would prefer a compact poser (I have the original image, so I don't need to keep all that data on my computer if I don't need it).

Undo and Redo

It occurred to me that some people might not know of this feature in yuusha because it's not very obvious (there aren't any "edit" menubar's like in most applications and there isn't really a button that says "undo" or "redo"). But it is possible to quickly revert changes that you either made by accident, or wish to go back to for various reasons.

Time-saving tips

This is mainly for my own reference (well, so is everything else), but this is a compilation of techniques that I use while working with digital yuusha (be it scene-making or modding). It may cut down the amount of time it takes for you to get things up and running properly and the time spent scratching your head and having to go back to the drawing board.

Manipulating wind

This discovery came from Modjo @ hongfire.
Previously I had thought there was no way to control what direction the wind blew in and it made it really difficult to make realistic scenes that require accurate physics. Such as clothing blowing in the right direction.

Well it's no longer an issue.

Just for reference.

Digital Yuusha

3D poser software developed by Illusion, released Oct 2, 2009. Allows you to design colorful scenes with a set of characters based off of popular (?) RPG's like dragon quest. Many mods have been introduced, mainly from members on hongfire and uppervolta.
