Removing that blob of light

In a brief joint effort with enimaroah from hongfire, we looked into why the blob of light appears on your custom maps. And in the end, a solution to remove that light was found.

Strange mesh textures

This applies to some maps from CharaColle, and a number of maps/items from Schoolmate 2/Digimate.
The issue is that in Yuusha, the meshes aren't showing up properly, even though they look fine in SB3U renderer. However, there is a solution to this!

Light sources

Although we don't seem to be able to edit XL files, we can still replace them. XL files are mapped in mo00_00_00_08.lst in 05.pp, so you can simply place the appropriate XL file that came with the map into your maps pp (default 07.pp), rename it if necessary, and then modify the lst file to load up that particular light file when you're loading the map. You can also mix and match existing XL files if the default provided does not suit you.

Working with xdiff files in illusion morpher

This post will show how to create an xdiff file and how to use them.

MQO morphing with illusion morpher

This post will show how to do some simple mqo morphing.

Systematic method to clothes modding - part 1

This is a fairly basic clothes modding guide that I developed while I was doing my own clothes modding (see Miko Viara). The goal behind this method is to make the modding process as easy as possible because I know we probably won't get things right the first time (or even the second or third even if you're an expert). There will be pictures later. Maybe.

Monster re-design: Dragon

Planning to take the dragon in item_00_61.xx and replace one of the monsters' meshes with that of the dragon. Not sure how that will turn out, but hopefully it will go smoothly and I'll have a dragon to play with!

Basic clothing mods: bones and meshes

This post will eventually discuss the relationship between bones and meshes, which basically dictate whether your mods will work the way you want them to.

Illusion Wizard

A post that discusses the illusion wizard and how I've used it so far.

Illusion Morpher

This post will highlight various features available in the illusion morpher a general description of what it does based on my own experience, and how I used it to get stuff done. You should visit DarkHound's thread if you want to know more technical details.

Unessential files for digital yuusha

Personally, the main game is useless to me. I find much more entertainment in creating my own scenes with a limitless amount of customizations, and so would prefer a compact poser (I have the original image, so I don't need to keep all that data on my computer if I don't need it).

Character definition list

Currently investigating whether we can modify lst files to tell the client to load different characters. It does seem possible, but it is still very restrictive.

Undo and Redo

It occurred to me that some people might not know of this feature in yuusha because it's not very obvious (there aren't any "edit" menubar's like in most applications and there isn't really a button that says "undo" or "redo"). But it is possible to quickly revert changes that you either made by accident, or wish to go back to for various reasons.

Map definition list

Similar to items, we can also map stages by name. Unfortunately, it seems like we can't specify the PP file this time, so it will be reading mo_00_00_07.pp. This means that if you have many maps, prepare to have a very large pp file. I personally have put together about 70 maps and the file is almost 1 GB (because some maps have too many things on it)

Time-saving tips

This is mainly for my own reference (well, so is everything else), but this is a compilation of techniques that I use while working with digital yuusha (be it scene-making or modding). It may cut down the amount of time it takes for you to get things up and running properly and the time spent scratching your head and having to go back to the drawing board.

Characters and Clothes

Along with lst files for maps, I also came across different lst files for characters. One of them appears to load the meshes for the clothing, another one for the actual character, and finally one more for the limb restrictions.

How digital yuusha handles maps

So recently I've been looking through the pp files seeing what other interesting things there might be that I can quickly edit and apply, and found where maps are handled.

Manipulating wind

This discovery came from Modjo @ hongfire.
Previously I had thought there was no way to control what direction the wind blew in and it made it really difficult to make realistic scenes that require accurate physics. Such as clothing blowing in the right direction.

Well it's no longer an issue.

Importing items from Battle Raper 2

If you tried to import items from BR2 by following the other guide I wrote, where it was a matter of just copying all of the meshes, textures, and materials from one file to another, then you would've found that BR2 items simply don't show up! However I've found one method that will solve the problem and allow you to import them successfully.

Digital Yuusha: Reference

Just for reference.

mo_00_00_05.pp

mo00_00_07.lst
mo00_00_08.lst - stage files, including xx, xa, xl, srs, and ptcl
mo00_00_09.lst - character srs files for each map
mo00_00_10.lst, mo00_00_11.lst - character lighting xl files for each map

mo_2p_00_00.lst - Clothing textures
mo_2p_00_01.lst - body textures
mo_2p_00_02.lst - face, hair textures

mo_04....lst files appear to be just loading SFX and GFX

Wizard ready item definition lists

Have a lot of item definition lists and want an easy way to switch them quickly? You may consider creating some wizard ready packages

Import items from other games

This post will describe the process for importing items from other games.

Import maps from other Illusion games

If you are interested in working with more maps, but do not have the technical expertise to create your own, then you may consider using maps from other illusion games.

This process describes one method to import other maps.

Customizing item mapping

Problem

I have many items, and I will potentially have even more in the future.
How am I suppose to manage it?!

Do I have to rename and re-pack them everytime I want to use it? (waste of time)
Do I keep a dozen files for every set of items I want? (waste of space)
What happens if I want the same item to appear in multiple sets? Isn't that a little redundant to keep a 1 MB file in 42 pp files? (redundancy is bad)

Digital Yuusha

3D poser software developed by Illusion, released Oct 2, 2009. Allows you to design colorful scenes with a set of characters based off of popular (?) RPG's like dragon quest. Many mods have been introduced, mainly from members on hongfire and uppervolta.
